On January 22, 1984, President Ronald Reagan issued a presidential proclamation designating the third Sunday of January as National Sanctity of Human Life Day.
President Reagan continued to affirm the sanctity of human life throughout his presidency and on January 4th, 1988 he issued proclamation 5761.
That proclamation from President Reagan reads in part …”
“Now, therefore, I Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in my be the constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim and declare the unalienable personhood of every American, from the moment of conception until natural death, and I do proclaim, ordain, and declare that I will take care that the Constitution and laws of the United States are faithfully executed for the protection of America’s unborn children. Upon this act, sincerely believed to be an act of justice, warranted by the Constitution, I invoke the considerate judgment of mankind and the gracious favor of Almighty God…I call upon the citizens of this blessed land to gather on that day in their homes and places of worship to give thanks for the gift of life they enjoy and to reaffirm their commitment to the dignity of every human being and the sanctity of every human life”. (as listed in the Ronald Reagan library archives).
A lot has happened in the 40 years since that first proclamation, we have a clearer image of life in the womb with ultrasounds, Roe v. Wade was overturned which has saved countless unborn lives. And yet the United States still takes the lives of unborn children, at the rate of approximately 2500 a day.
We deny our children their most basic unalienable right, as the Declaration of Independence affirms, the right to life!
Pro-abortionists celebrate abortion and call it health care or individual freedoms. Never taking into consideration the health care of the child.
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is celebrated each year on the third Sunday in January. This year we will celebrate on Sunday, January 21st, 2024.
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is meant to be a day to bring awareness to the attacks that are daily waged against human life through the abortion industry.
We should be celebrating the Sanctity of Human Life every day. We should be standing up for the right to life for all.
Let’s promote the respect for the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death, every day.
I want to remind our community, as proclamation 5761 does, that we should be thankful for the life we have and to reaffirm our stand to the dignity and sanctity of every human life.
This Sunday should just be a start to a daily commitment to stand for life.
All life has value, and abortion is NOT healthcare! Let’s celebrate life, all life.
