Recently, Costco announced that it will continue to not offer the abortion pill mifepristone. While pro-abortion groups may be quick to label this a failure on Costco’s part, the reason Costco gave points to something more significant—a possible cultural shift.
According to a Newsweek article published on August 15, 2025, Costco said, “Our position at this time not to sell mifepristone, which has not changed, is based on the lack of demand from our members…” In other words, people simply aren’t asking for it.
In the 50 years since Roe v. Wade was first enacted, pro-life advocates have fought tirelessly to protect children from the tragedy of abortion. That fight has taken many forms, from the 1990s slogan “It’s a child, not a choice,” to more recent efforts aimed at helping our culture understand that even a fetus is a human being—one who deserves basic human rights.
Costco’s decision, driven by lack of demand, suggests that this message may be taking root. Perhaps we are beginning to see a shift, not just in laws or policies, but in hearts and minds. A growing number of people appear to be recognizing the sanctity of life at every stage.
And that is something worth noticing—and celebrating. For pro-lifers, this shift represents a long-hoped-for sign that the culture is beginning to embrace life over convenience, compassion over silence, and truth over trends.
