It’s not often you find people eager to talk about potentially explosive topics like abortion, but after Right to Life of Kern County’s outreach on the campus of Cal State University, Bakersfield last spring, volunteers are ready to launch into it once more.
Even for soft-spoken types like RTLKC volunteer Mike Molatore, the April outreach was a rush.
“The training changed my attitude from trying to immediately prove i’m correct in my beliefs to focus more on finding common ground with the student I’m talking with,” Molatore said. “We have more a dialogue than a debate.”
Molatore was one of 10 volunteers who engaged CSUB students in discussions about abortion over the course of the two-day outreach, which was held the week following a half-day pro-life training session developed in house adapting the methods of the Equal Rights Institute, an organization whose purpose is to “train pro-life advocates to think clearly, reason honestly and argue persuasively.”
This fall, the training will be offered in two sessions on Saturday, October 13 in the parish hall of St. Francis of Assisi Church, 900 H St. in Bakersfield. Session 1 is for those taking the training for the first time. Session 2 is a refresher course for those who have taken the training before.
Session 1: 8 a.m. to noon.
Session 2: 1 to 4 p.m.
CSUB campus outreach: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., October 15 and 16.
